Massage therapy is the manual manipulation of soft body tissues (muscle, connective tissue, tendons, and ligaments) to enhance a person’s health and well-being. It can help relieve pain, reduce stress, and promote relaxation.
What types of massage do you offer?
NOLA Mobile Massage offers a variety of massage techniques, including Swedish, deep tissue, sports massage, trigger point therapy, prenatal massage, myofascial release, and cupping therapy. Each session is customized to your needs.
Do I need a reason to get a massage, or can I come just to relax?
You can absolutely come in just to relax! Massage therapy is beneficial whether you’re addressing specific pain or simply looking to unwind and de-stress. Every day is a good day to get a massage.
Before the Appointment
What should I wear to a massage session?
Wear comfortable clothing. During the session, you’ll be appropriately and professionally draped with sheets for modesty and only the area being worked on will be exposed. You can undress to your comfort level.
Should I eat before my massage?
It’s best to avoid heavy meals right before your massage. A light snack is fine if you’re hungry, but being too full may cause discomfort while lying on the table.
Do I need to bring anything?
Just bring yourself! If you have a doctor’s note or any relevant medical history, you can bring that too, especially if you’re receiving massage for an injury or chronic condition.
During the Session
Will the massage hurt?
Massage shouldn’t be painful, but some techniques (like deep tissue) may cause temporary discomfort as tension is released. Always communicate with your therapist if anything feels too intense.
Can I talk during the massage?
It’s completely up to you. Some clients prefer to relax in silence, while others like to chat. Your comfort is the priority.
What if I feel uncomfortable or want to stop?
You are always in control. If at any point you feel uncomfortable or want to end the session, just let your therapist know immediately.
After the Massage
What should I do after my massage?
Drink plenty of water, rest if possible, and avoid strenuous activity right after your session. You may feel sore the next day, which is normal and should pass quickly.
How often should I get a massage?
It depends on your goals. For general wellness, once a month may be enough. For pain management or injury recovery, weekly or bi-weekly sessions might be recommended.
Can massage help with chronic conditions like back pain or headaches?
Yes. Many clients find regular massage therapy helps manage chronic issues such as lower back pain, tension headaches, sciatica, and more. It’s often part of a broader care plan.
Massage Therapy Q&A for Athletes
How can massage therapy help with my athletic performance?
Massage can improve flexibility, reduce recovery time, prevent injuries, and help muscles perform at their peak. It supports circulation and reduces lactic acid buildup after workouts.
Is massage good for injury recovery?
Yes. Sports massage can speed up healing by increasing blood flow, reducing inflammation, and breaking up scar tissue. It’s commonly used for strains, sprains, and overuse injuries.
When is the best time to get a massage—before or after a workout?
Both are beneficial. Pre-event massage helps warm up muscles and improve mobility. Post-event massage aids recovery and reduces soreness.
What kind of massage is best for athletes?
Sports massage, deep tissue, and trigger point therapy are typically the most effective. We customize each session based on your training schedule and physical needs.
Massage Therapy Q&A for Seniors
Is massage safe for older adults?
Yes, absolutely. Gentle, therapeutic massage is very safe and beneficial for seniors, especially when adapted for conditions like arthritis, osteoporosis, or reduced mobility.
What are the benefits of massage for seniors?
It can improve circulation, reduce joint stiffness, ease muscle pain, support balance, and help with stress, anxiety, or sleep issues.
I have medical conditions—can I still get a massage?
In most cases, yes. We’ll review your health history before the session and can adjust techniques to accommodate conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, or joint replacements.
Do I need to get on a massage table?
Not necessarily. We can provide massage in a way that’s comfortable and accessible for you.
Massage Therapy Q&A for Prenatal Clients
Is it safe to get a massage during pregnancy?
Yes, prenatal massage is safe for most pregnant women after the first trimester. We use special positioning and techniques to ensure your comfort and safety.
What are the benefits of prenatal massage?
